Hello All,

I'm off out on my first tri-coy FTX as an instructor this weekend (hooray!!)...

I don't own a set of webbing, so I will be checking out the CTV. (It was that or take some 58' but decided all the other CFAVs might bully me if I took that :( )

Having had an assault vest as a cadet I was dead against them, and made the jump to scrounging PLCE where I could, and I remember why!!!

Just finished 'packing' - to empathise with cadets I have kept the ammo pouch clear (although no doubt my Haribo will end up in here later on). What I have discovered is that I have nowhere to keep a waterproof... Which makes me feel a bit guilty for yelling at cadets who had them feebly strapped in and kept dropping them. I find myself in the same embarrassing boat...

So, just to emphasise, I'm not taking anything particularly unnecessary... Except the thermos flask, but I am not going without that...

Pouches, from right to left, are packed in the following order....

- Thermal Flask & crap hat
- Warm kit, that is, hat, shemagh, gloves
- Waterbottle and Mug (brew kit will also be going here when issued)
- Mess Tins, gas stove, and spork
- Haribo... Will probably have to replaced with 'real' rations when issued.
- Empty ammo pouch.

If someone could shed some light on where the little darlings (and I) are supposed to keep a goretex, that'd be fab?!

Second issue, aside from space, is that I've done the thing up as tight as it will go, and it is still massive, and I am not as small as a cadet. I mean, I know it's one size fits all, but really???? It'll drop off me at this rate...

Will update experiences post-FTX :)

Having done my CRU last weekend, we had a discussing with the WO running the course and our Company OC and came to the conclusion that, where possible, we will use them in the field on annual camp. However, I was just thinking - we're issued the older headsets with throat mikes and one earphone, which I would guess (hope!) is acceptable hearing protection for that ear, but what do we use in the other ear? If we're going to be giving contact reports and movement orders under fire, we're not going to be able to remove the headset and use full headsets as we normally would!

On an entirely unrelated point, during a contact situation is it acceptable to use the radio to give a command like "Move 50 metres east and flank" as opposed to giving a grid reference? (Obviously all said with correct voice procedure)

http://www.armycadetforce.com/forum/...ad.php?t=21993

To ensure maximum excitement and have people attend the event and come away satisifed, he suggests something which is in my view very sound to consider when you recruit, and for that matter when you are running a weekend or camp.

Under Promise and Over Deliver

Extreme example: If you were to recruit with a film showing only your four star cadre on their final FTX, cammed to the eyeballs, toting LMG's, or your shooting team at Bisley, you are building your cadets expectations up too far to quickly!

You need to strike the balancve of showing good things are possible, but there is a challenge ahead to get there?

If your potential recruits see such as this and turn up to the detachment, you have built in a bit of a disappointment to start with?

Similarly for weekends or annuals, you are better underselling rather than promising excitement all the way through!

If it is planned your 4 star group is going to be picked up at ENDEX by a Chinook, don't tell 'em until its in the sky!

I have a dilemma, because of personal reasons, for my FTX I am supplying myself with my own meals etc. However, I am trying to think about what to take exactly, because I need to think of items which will give me enough energy, yet are fast to make, or pre-made, but clearly nothing like the stuff in a ration pack... I.e. Breakfast bars, yeah great, but what kind? Personally I was considering the Belvita ones... And with regards to others, not a clue...

Any Suggestions?

If None, I'll think of something, I always do :)
