When you put it like that, it's all just a little bit too "arbeit macht frei" for my liking.

There are a couple of reasons that I don't currently operate a 'subs' system at my unit;

1. It's a real headache to administer for many of the reasons already stated.
2. We make a few quid from our public performances so no that short of cash anyway.
3. There is the Yorkshire Cadet Trust to assist those cadets in hardship to attend camps, etc.
4. With some hard work, it is possible to get free kit from all over the place.

We operate a 'subs' system, and none of the cadets i have found mind paying 50p a night, what we get out of it is well worth it. Our (NAAFI that isnt run by NAAFI) is only basic, 1p sweets and some cans of Dr.Pepper or coke or whatever. At the end of last year, we did have a christmas party, with all our cadets, and some Very welcome guests, (my old DC, CSM and some NCOs that were going to move Det)
I hope this image works :P

Thats the vast quantity of food the DC bought with Detachment funds We also had his WII, and twister :P ahh thats cheered me up anyway. Great night, we currently have no stores, but we know that, and until we get our own Det, we wont have stores!
As we're a relativy small detachment, Subs help us run, and i bet if we desperatly need a piece of kit, we can get it.
