Yes I am an adult Sgt. I joined 6 months ago and I start my AI's course next week. I was a WO1 in the Regular Army having served for 23 years.

Feyalass, how long have you been out as I am sure there is something in the Pam about you going into the ACF at the equivalent rank if you join the ACF within a couple of years of leaving regular service.

As for me I did 4 years as a cadet, left as a Cpl. I am now a SSgt in the Army.

Thanks Worst Case. You have to get the exemption from the Commandant. The powers that be have decided that I must complete an AI's course as I will not be familiar with the Cadet System. I don't mind going on the course because you will always learn and I heard it is a good course to go on. It's quite fun being a Sgt again, less the obvious jibes from old friends (WO1 REME only equivalent to a Sgt in the ACF). But I really enjoy working with the cadets and the other instructors who put a huge amount of effort in this. I am an ex cadet myself a got a great deal out of it, now my turn to put something back. My son is in the cadets an really enjoys it. Being self employed gives me the time to dedicate to the ACF without having to ask for time off. I have a huge respect for the adults I have met as most give up an enormous amount of time and are definitely not in it for themselves. To me it's about the cadets I don't need to wear a badge to do what I do. I can still shout if I think things are wrong if need be. Best wishes. Ray

Worst Case. I see you are in the RE. One of my best postings was to 25 Engr Regt, Antrim. Huge respect for you guys. Most people don't see how much the Engineers do. First in last out.

No comment about the REME WO1 = ACF Sgt, especially as I am a Royal Engineer.
I agree with having to do the AI, KGVI and certain parts of the induction package but common sense should dictate.
As for the rank, like you say it doesn't matter if you are there for the right reasons. Just a bit of extra cash to help out.

As for your comment it applies to exercise, operations and the bar! Where did I leave my babooning paddle?

Yes, Para 5.020 tells you about this - but it is subject to you having left within 5 years, and it is subject to vacancy, but WO should equal SMI on appointment.

You would still have to conduct all of your induction training though in one form or another.

I have read this. I am happy doing whatever anyone wants me to do. I got exempt ITC but obviously still got intruction on the Red book etc. I am looking forward to the AI's course next week. Never too old to learn. For me it will be a good refresher. Used the SA80 in service so will learn the way we teach cadets on the GP. Will obviously be differences so expect to learn, therefore worthwhile. I run a very successfull company so being a Sgt suits me. There are others who have been AI's for a long time and it would not be appropriate to move above them having only just joined regardless of background.

I'm a lance corporal and I've been in about 1 year and half.

I've also joined another det which I've been in about 4 weeks and I'm kind of an acting lance.
